Pets

I remember going to pick up Molly in Airdrie when she was just a puppy, (I have vivid memories of this as well. I got to bring her home in my coat- Gillan).  and I remember the many times taking her in the car with us and how with that bad over-bite of hers, she would swing her head from one side to the other and drool across everyone in her path.

Ben, as I recall, was one of Molly's puppies (?) and I recall that he chewed everything.  There was the time when dad brought home a nice new tent and set it up in the back yard and one morning we woke up to discover that Ben had chewed a hole in the side of the tent!

Helping Molly in the wee early hours with each of her mutt litters- never did get to breed her for pedigree litters.

How about the Husky(?) we left in a basement bedroom who chewed a hole through the wall to get out.

Or Lassie who adopted Dad even though Lanny bought him/her, s/he slept at the door of Mom amd Dad's bedroom. And once mom got up in the night to go to the bathroom and Lassie wouldn't let her back in the room.

Woody was the little blind puppy that was friends with a turtle that lived in a little "pond" (plastic bin) in the back yard.

Beth and I getting kittens for Christmas – we used to put them in our doll carriages – mine was named Tabby – how original – it was a Tabby cat – Beth’s was black and white but I can’t remember the name.

My kitten was black and white and very fluffy.  I named it Fluffy!  Very original too.

Can’t forget our incredible cat Sam….who ate with his paw…..couldn’t bear to put his face into his dish and eat like other cats.  We have the snapshots to prove it.  Also he would leave the house by the front door but always came back in via our bedroom window!

Raising (or better said-chasing) rabbits in the back yard. Jody had an albino rabbit named Fluffy??  I remember the babies being born frequently. I had a Dutch rabbit named Peter.  His early passing was a traumatic moment in my childhood.

Do you recall when Sam the cat caught a bat in the back yard one warm summer night?.  We have pictures to prove it.

Any stories about "Sniff" the Wagenasts's little dog?

  1. I remember the rabbits were getting out of their cages before school started and jody having to round them up (not as easily done as said) all the time worried some dog would get them. Jody's rabbit was named Slippers and one day had a batch of young which she ate for breakfast. It was traumatic for everyone but Jody was especially disappointed. Uncle Sid seemed to be a rabbit expert and advised us from time to time. I do recall how delicate and boney the surviving young were. Not sure they ever made it past that stage, but there are few things more pure.
