Inside the walls of 222

That same green tiled bathroom was where we (more than once) filled the tub with an inch of water and punched a small hole in a tin can lid- removed the bottom of the can- placed a fire cracker wick through the small hole (fire cracker securely inside the can)- placed the can open side down in the inch of water and lit the fuse. A rocket of a can launched to the ceiling and a small tsunami was created in the tub.

Making rootbeer in the kitchen sink in plastic liter bottles. The formula was particularly potent once and the recently filled and capped bottle exploded and shot the cap up so hard it lodged in the ceiling drywall and painted the kitchen with a coating of rootbeer.

Staying up late talking to mom in the kitchen – sitting on the counters – Dad heading to bed saying “you know what you’ll be saying in the morning…”

One of the fondest times was the night that Mom and I were in bed in the basement room and our three songsters came in and woke us to sing the whole score from Fiddler on the Roof. We smile and choke up with laughter at the thought.

The hanging chair in the living room.

How about the church bookstore in the front two bedrooms of the house?

As  Dad was  returning  home  from  a three week  long  biz  trip  one  "dear  little  soul"  ran  out  to  the  car  and said "Mommy  swore!"

When  Dad  would  go  on a business  trip  we  got  to  rent a  TV........what a  luxury.

Anybody remember playing “strip” poker with elastic bands in our pockets? It must have been when Jody and Lanny were delivering papers.
And how about the Dave Smith 5?
And our secret club—the Voodoo Club and the password was BLOOD.

Beth drinking the dyed water mom had to dye the patio and having to get her stomach pumped.

I think getting my stomach pumped must have been one of my earliest memories.  I remember a nurse giving me a cookie for being so brave.  Maybe an Oreo or something like that.

Mom forgetting where she hid the cord for the TV.

How about Lannys method of washing dishes ... putting the dirty stuff under the clean.

Stuffing food down the legs of the kitchen table, eating jello out of the box.

When we bought 222-9th Ave we were living in Coutts and whenever we came to Calgary we stopped to see our new home.  Mr. McNeil our going to be next door neighbor told the Realtor “I have seen the husband and five kids and the baby sitter but I don’t see any mother.”  I was wearing peddle pushers and had a long pony tail…and I was 34 years old!!!!!!!! I still cherish that moment.
The first time we were shown through the house our 4 yr old Lori said “Mommy come and look, it’s got a toilet!”  The Realtor gave us a rather odd look…..he didn’t know we had and out-house in Coutts.

I remember the Saturday job lists on the chalkboard that was hanging on the wall down the back stairs – it always seemed endless.

I remember Marshall really enjoying the "Hallowed Journey" series cassette tapes.  I believe I have that original set- Mom sent them to me.  My kids have listened to them at times.
