Angel Food cakes for our birthdays – I continued the tradition with Tommy and Josh for many years until I found out they never liked Angel Food cake.

Dad renting or borrowing a little moped thing for my birthday one year and all of us taking turns driving it around the parking lot at Atco near the airport.
I remember in about grade 2 or 3, mom made birthday invitations for my birthday party and on the cover of each invitation it said "It's not Halloween.....it's not Christmas.......It's a Birthday!" I can even see the invitations in my head. Mom had drawn pumpkins and Christmas trees on the front of the green construction paper invitations. For my party mom made it like a restaurant and we got to order from individual menus that mom made too (a very limited menu I'm sure) but it was the coolest party. I remember though that one of my friends that was invited, Lanny Gammel (does anybody remember her family?) was being annoying and mom called her on it and told her that she was being a rude little girl. (or something to that effect) I remember being embarrassed about that but it was still one of the best birthdays I can remember!
Our special dinners on our birthdays, just the birthday kid with mom and dad. We got to choose what restaurant to go to.
