Chow!

Going to the Exchange Cafe for dinner as a family. The red and gold decor.
Gillan

Ordering over the phone from Exchange Café – we would say 269 and they would say 4207.  Monte would order chicken wings and totally soak them in a bowl of lemon juice.
Marji

speaking of Monte  soaking  the  wings  in  lemon  juice..I  used  an  empty Soy  sauce
jar to  put  my  chlorphyl  liquid in, put  it  in  the  fridge  but  forgot  to  label  it....thinking it was
Soy  sauce  poor  Mont poured  it  over  his  delicious Chinese dinner.

The ice cream place on Edmonton trail was a Dairy Queen BOOTH and a large cone was 15 cents and chocolate dip was 10 cents for a 25 cent cone that I could barely eat before getting back to grade 4.  Later it became Boogies Burgers and then moved into the strip mall back from the road.

The powdered milk ... is there anything grosser?
Jody

Jody, I couldn’t agree more about powdered milk being gross.  Someone asked Doris Salmon if powdered milk was cheaper…..she said “Very much cheaper…..the kids have stopped drinking milk!”  Auntie Marnie marveled at you…..just 6 years old standing up at the kitchen sink mixing the powdered milk.

Tunafish mixed with cream of mushroom soup and frozen peas heated up and laid over toast with butter.  Or, egg in a basket- cut out a square in toast and fry an egg in the middle of it.  Chili with a little vinegar added- I still do that.  Macaroni elbows with stewed tomatoes and sugar in a 9X12 baking pan.  Adding our own cooked angel hair (or regular) pasta to Exchange Café’s Wonton soup to make it stretch.  Waking up as a teenager to Dad bringing in a plate of hashbrowns, poached eggs and toast.  I did that for Alyssa and Cassie the other day and got the same abundance of appreciation that I felt as a teenager.

The community (?) garden way out near the river in south east Calgary that had a very distinct odor- cow pies?.   More gophers than vegetables.

The Donut King!!!!!
Jody

Jody, the Donut king was at the back of my mind the whole time we did Pizzas and Cream.  The undisputed hang out.

I remember dad didn’t/doesn’t like crunching.  We used to eat crunchy food when he was away.
I remember root beer floats for refreshments after home evening.
I remember brewers yeast powder mixed in OJ.  I couldn’t drink OJ for years without tasting it – absolutely gagged me.  Now, believe it or not, I put it on my popcorn with a bit of olive oil – it’s delish!
Minute maid orange juice, brown bread, brown sugar – I wanted tang, white bread and white sugar – of course now I am so glad mom was health conscious.

I know someone mentioned KFC.  Remember their fries with gravy?  So tasty.  I remember when KFC burned down.  I went with someone from the family, probably Monte to sneak in an look around.
Gillan

And yes, it was me that went into Barney's with you after it burned down. Remember when it got hit with the drive by shooting?
Monte

Remind me about Linda May's... where was it?

Anyone recall the White Spot steak house?
